An ongoing ministry of encouragment to the people of Honduras

Our History

A Ministry of Encouragement  Serving Honduras since 1991

Marcus and Maria Kamberger,  Ledy and Pastor Ray Marco
The mission of Cristo Salva began in 1990, after a brief visit to Honduras by Pastor Ray Marco and church members Markus and Maria Kamberger, of the Oak Grove Church in Miami. Maria and Marcus asked Pastor Ray to pray for her sister who had been diagnosed with cancer. They explained that she was in Honduras and they wanted Pastor Ray to go to Honduras with them to lay hands on her and pray. Deeply burdened by the poverty, sickness and spiritual need they observed while in Honduras, they earnestly prayed, asking God what they could do to help.
Within months, Markus and Maria had the opportunity to purchase a 250-acre farm in the poor mountain village they had visited earlier. It was situated in Las Varas, approximately two hours from San Pedro Sula, the 2nd largest city in Honduras.  In January 1991, the first ministry team was commissioned from Oak Grover Church with supplies and ministry tools for the local churches. The farm quickly became a mission base and was dubbed Hacienda Cristo Salva. Cristo Salva is translated Jesus Christ Saves. In 2004 with the generous donations of individuals with a heart for "the least of these" land was purchased and a 3900 square foot clinic was constructed in Macuelizo, the neighboring town to Las Varas. "The Hospital" as the locals call it has provided the space to install and house medical equipment and supplies in order to treat patients more effectively. In 2008, the Cristo Salva Dental Clinic officially opened at the clinic with two operatories. (See the Clinic Album for additional photos). In 2012 Cristo Salva moved its missions base to Mt. Calvero Conference Center in neighboring Sula. Cristo Salva is the ministry hub to the many outlying towns and villages. The mission of Cristo Salva strives to serve the people of Honduras by demonstrating the Gospel in the most practical terms to the hurting and needy.

In 2011 Cristo Salva had the opportunity to enter into a lease/purchase for a TV Station that was located in Azacualpa. In October of 2011 broadcasting began! Please see the TV Station tab for more information.
Cristo Salva operates four short-term mission trips a year. There are a wide variety of areas and times that individuals can serve as there are one or two week trips. The ministry includes: Medical Missions Teams-doctors, nurses, dentists, hygienists, pharmacists and energetic volunteers to tend to the sick and hurting in the neediest villages through mobile clinics and at the Clinic in Macuelizo. Cristo Salva medical teams are able to provide help to hundreds of patients daily.
Cristo Salva operates food and clothing programs. Children and families in the poorest communities have little food or clothing. Many are forced to exist on one meal a day. Mission teams provide food supplies, shoes and clothing for those in need.
Cristo Salva seeks to further the work of God's Kingdom by encouraging and strengthening the local churches. Pastor's seminars, ministry supplies, Bibles, worship services and biblical teaching are all part of the outreach to the Body of Christ in Honduras.
Cristo Salva Ministry Teams also visit families house to house, distributing tracts and Bibles and praying with and counseling individuals. Many have heard the simple Gospel message and have responded in faith. These brothers and sisters are assimilated into local churches where they are nurtured and discipled.
Teams are involved in building projects within the community, supporting local churches and the Cristo Salva mission base.
In cooperation with Vitamin Angels, Cristo Salva provides a daily vitamin supplement and twice yearly anti-parasite medication to over 55,000 children from age two through the sixth grade in all schools in a four county area." Dental education is taught in the schools and Cristo Salva gives out hundreds of tooth brushes and tooth paste yearly.
Cristo Salva provides paper, pencils,  and other school supplies to many public schools. Principals and teachers regularly grant Cristo Salva complete freedom to address the students and present the Gospel in the classrooms.  In 2011 Cristo Salva started a Student Sponsorship Program to help assist families who wanted to send their children to school. 150 students were sponsored the first year. In 2012, the number grew to over 250 students and we currently have over 300 students enrolled in the program. Many who would not be able to attend school without the assistance of their sponsors.
So much has been accomplished in just a few short years. The number of patients treated since the inception of the ministry is staggering. Truly lives have been changed through the continuing efforts of Cristo Salva.
