An ongoing ministry of encouragment to the people of Honduras

Student Scholarship Program

2019 Student Scholarship Program

We are excited to announce that Melvin Corea, of Pinalejo, Honduras will be the administrator of the school program in Honduras. Melvin will be in contact with the students, encouraging them in their studies and checking in with their school to see how they are doing. He will purchase the uniforms and supplies and organize the distribution in January. He also coordinates the Youth Service we have each trip. Melvin is our first missionary from Honduras and we are excited to have him as part of our Ministry.

We are also very excited to announce that Pastor Ron and Jan Thomas have agreed to administrate the program here in the States. They will be responsible for coordinating the sponsors with their students, sending out the renewals in the Fall and the packets with photos in the Spring. They will be the contact for any questions about the program. They are using the same email address as noted below.

There are over 300 students in the program and we continue to need new sponsors!

If you would like to sponsor a student please email Pastor Ron and Jan at: csstudentsponsors@yahoo.com

Student Sponsor
The Student Scholarship Program was started in 2011. We anticipated around 25 students would be sponsored the first year. We ended up with 120 students because of the generosity of so many! We are very grateful for your support.   In 2012, a church sponsored the Green Wells School in entirety and continue to renew their sponsorship. In 2013, two churches partnered to sponsor the school in Las Pilas. This is a great way to sponsor the neediest schools. We have sponsors that give the gift of Sponsorship as Christmas Gifts each year. We have beautiful gift cards that can be mailed out if you would like to give a sponsorship as a gift.

This year we added a mandatory Youth Service for those in grades 4-12. We hold the service in the Cultural Center in Macuelizo four times a year. Many young people have surrendered their lives to Christ during the services. We are excited to see how God is working through this new part of the program.

This year we are anticipating  enrolling around 330 students. We still have a quite a long waiting list.  We are adding some families on Cemetery Road and La Flecha along with any student entering kindergarten who has siblings in the program already.

Some History on Education in Honduras

There has been a tremendous need for school uniforms, school kits and now for scholarships for children who wish to attend school (it's optional in Honduras).

The school year runs from February-November.

Kinder, Elementary and Colegio are the 3 levels of schooling.
Kinder is for 4-6 year olds.
Elementary is 1-6th grades.
Colegio is Jr and Sr High combined. Receiving a diploma enables the student to obtain a job or continue their education and gives them a greater chance of making a better life for themselves and their families.

Cristo Salva has been providing school kits and uniforms through the generosity of your donations throughout the years. Students cannot attend school unless they have a uniform and supplies. The school kits are distributed in Laguna Verde to the students who attend school there. We partner with the Pastors from the local church so they share the gospel when they distribute the supplies.
.
In 2011, we noticed a dramatic increase in the number of students who needed assistance. The School System funding has been decreasing each year while the requirements have been increasing. There are extra projects and lab fees that make the cost of attending school too great for many families.  Our goal was to provide assistance in helping students to attend school. It is not designed to completely cover the cost of schooling. We felt is was important that the family have a vested interest in helping their student to succeed in school.

The scholarships are as follows:

Kinder and Elementary school $65/year  includes the uniform  & supplies  (shoes, shirt, socks, pants/skirt and book bag)

Colegio sponsorship $110/year includes shoes, shirt, pants/skirt,  materials (Books, matricular, exam and lab fees) and book bag. Some grades include tennis shoes and a  gym shirt.

So for $65 you can send an elementary school student to school for a year and for $110 you can send a junior/senior high student to school for a year  This is a tangible way to make a substantial difference in the life of a student.

Each sponsor will be send a photo  of the student in February/March along with a DVD with updates from students in the program.

If you would like to sponsor a child please email Pastor Ron and Jan at: csstudentsponsors@yahoo.com
